Kwara State University Announces New Minimum Wage for Staff 2024
Kwara State University (KWASU) in Malete has shared important news about staff pay. The Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, OON, announced that starting in December 2024, university staff will earn a new minimum wage of 70,000 Naira. This change aims to create a better working environment and encourage staff to commit to the university’s goals.
Professor Ambali made this announcement during a meeting with leaders from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) from the Ibadan Zone. The meeting took place on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the university’s Business School in Ilorin. He emphasized that this move aligns with ASUU’s focus on creating a supportive workplace and prioritizing staff well-being.
Along with the new minimum wage, Professor Ambali discussed several initiatives to improve staff welfare at KWASU. The university is taking steps to show appreciation for its employees. One significant change is adjusting salaries to better match the current economic situation, helping staff manage their daily costs.
Another important support measure is the introduction of a 100,000 Naira rebate for the school fees of staff members’ children attending the university. This program is meant to ease the financial burden on staff who have children enrolled in KWASU and shows the university’s commitment to supporting its workforce.
Additionally, the university will provide a monthly stipend of 50,000 Naira to disabled staff members. This step promotes inclusivity, ensuring that all employees receive the support they need to succeed in their roles. KWASU will also start a subsidized transportation program to help staff who commute between Ilorin and Malete, making their daily travel easier and more affordable.
Professor Ambali also mentioned ongoing talks with the state government about ASUU’s concerns, especially regarding the payment of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) to union members.
