UNILAG Clarifies 2025/2026 Post-UTME Rumors
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has formally addressed allegations and speculations circulating on social media regarding its recently completed 2025/2026 Post-UTME screening examination. On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the institution issued an official statement to tackle concerns and clarify misleading reports that have been prevalent in public discussions since the screening occurred.
The university reported that the Post-UTME screening took place from September 1 to September 4, 2025. Following the examination, a surge of emails and social media comments arose, claiming that technical malfunctions and vendor issues had compromised the process, with some individuals suggesting that these alleged problems were linked to notifications of examination malpractice sent to certain candidates.
UNILAG’s management strongly refuted these allegations. In their official communication, the university asserted that the notifications of malpractice sent to some candidates were not due to any technical mismanagement. Instead, the flagged incidents were connected to apparent breaches of the established examination rules that are in place to protect the integrity of the admission process.
To guarantee a fair and transparent experience, UNILAG disclosed that it implemented several monitoring mechanisms throughout the examination. This included the use of secure video surveillance, which the university described as a useful method for identifying irregular activities. The institution emphasized that the violations identified were not arbitrary but were backed by evidence obtained through these security measures.
While some individuals have called for the university to publicly release the complete video recordings of the alleged infractions, UNILAG firmly stated that such action would be unfeasible. The management clarified that sharing unedited footage would infringe current laws and data protection regulations. To find a middle ground between transparency and privacy, the university might consider publishing anonymized screenshots that exemplify the types of infractions being investigated.
This clarification aims to alleviate the increasing doubt among stakeholders, especially candidates and their parents, who have been disturbed by widespread reports of issues. The university encouraged the public to exercise caution and refrain from relying on unauthorized information sources that could further perpetuate misinformation.
In a signed statement, Adejoke R. Alaga-Ibraheem, Head of the Communication Unit at UNILAG, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to admissions transparency. She reiterated that the management remains devoted to upholding the integrity of its screening process and that no level of speculation or misrepresentation would deter the university from this core principle.
Alaga-Ibraheem also emphasized that students should exclusively follow updates disseminated through official channels, including the university website and sanctioned communication platforms. She cautioned that depending on unofficial sources could mislead candidates and jeopardize their opportunities for accurate participation in the admission process.
The university further sought to assure candidates who took part in the Post-UTME that its admissions policy is rooted in fairness and equity. By utilizing technology and various monitoring tools, UNILAG aims to protect deserving candidates from the risks of malpractice, thus preserving trust in the system.
For many years, UNILAG has remained one of Nigeria’s most sought-after universities, attracting thousands of applicants each year. The institution’s defense of its Post-UTME exercise highlights the vital importance of credibility in its admissions process, particularly at a time when confidence in digital examinations is being called into question across the nation.
Education experts have pointed out that the debate regarding the Post-UTME for the 2025/2026 session reflects a broader discussion on the impact of technology in assessments. Although digital screening systems offer greater efficiency, they have also been criticized for technical issues, difficulties in monitoring, and the anxiety they cause among candidates. Consequently, UNILAG’s robust defense is viewed as both an answer to pressing worries and a wider assertion of its ability to handle technology-based evaluations responsibly.
In its concluding statement, the university emphasized that integrity, fairness, and transparency are fundamental to its admissions process. It called upon all parties involved, including candidates, parents, and the public, to maintain composure and have confidence in the established procedures that govern its operations.
With this official clarification, UNILAG aimed to correct any misinformation about a malfunctioning system and reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards in admissions to Nigeria’s higher education institutions.
