Niger Govt Shuts Down IBB University Over Security Breach — Students Ordered to Vacate Campus!
Following a startling increase in security threats that resulted in fatalities within the campus population, the Niger State government has declared the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBB University), Lapai.
Abubakar Usman, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), stated in a statement that the decision was necessary because of the increasing level of insecurity within and outside the institution.
The lockdown, which is effective immediately and will last until further notice, was agreed by Governor Umaru Bago.
“The Niger State Government places the safety and security of all citizens, especially students and staff, as its top priority,” the statement said. “We take immediate action to address the situation, and we are deeply saddened by the unfortunate events.”
During this time of unpredictability, the government urged students, faculty, and the entire university community to maintain composure, exercise caution, and fully cooperate with security personnel.
Additionally, it guaranteed that while investigations into the incidents are already under progress, efforts are being made to bring peace and normalcy back. The entire force of the law will be applied to those proved to be at fault.
“Our commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of all Niger State residents remains unwavering,” the statement continued.
