JAMB Warns Schools Over Withheld Matriculation Lists

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a warning that it will not sanction admissions for the 2024 and 2025 academic years in any tertiary institution that does not provide its matriculation list.

Several years ago, the Federal Ministry of Education required all tertiary institutions to submit these lists to JAMB as part of efforts to eliminate the rising issue of unauthorized admissions.

During a meeting with Admission Desk Officers, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, as reported in a board bulletin, stated that “Institutions that do not submit their matriculation lists for the 2022 and 2023 admissions will not have their admissions approved for the 2024 and 2025 admission processes.”

He pointed out that a concession for the 2024 admissions was being granted because some institutions were still finalizing the process. Still, he emphasized that compliance was necessary once their admission processes were completed.

Oloyede cautioned that the board would hold “erring institutions accountable,” with suitable penalties to be revealed later.

He mentioned, “As a precursor to what is ahead for non-compliant institutions, the Registrar indicated that these institutions would be summoned for a meeting, while affiliated institutions would also be called in, together with their parent institutions, where appropriate consequences would be outlined.

“The Registrar further instructed that an advertisement should be published in major newspapers to notify all institutions that admissions for non-compliant institutions will not be authorized.

“In this regard, Admission Desk Officers were urged to ensure that these institutions adhere to the directive regarding the submission of matriculation lists.”

When reached for comment, JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin confirmed that the list of institutions that have not complied will be shared with The PUNCH.
