JAMB Warns 2025 UTME Candidates Against Poor Examination Town Selection | JAMB Exam 2025

The JAMB Exam 2025 is fast approaching, and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned candidates against making desperate choices when selecting their examination towns.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Sunday in Abuja, emphasizing that JAMB does not select examination towns for candidates, whether for the main UTME or the optional mock examination. His clarification follows a noticeable trend of candidates showing unusual preferences for certain locations, particularly in their bid to participate in the mock exercise.
Benjamin noted that about 90 percent of the available slots for the optional mock examination across the country had already been filled. He further explained that only a few states still had available slots, and candidates wishing to participate in the mock examination should be mindful of their choices.
According to him, “JAMB Exam 2025 candidates have been observed making unusual preferences regarding their choice of examination towns, likely in an effort to participate in the optional mock examination.
“This notice aims to advise candidates against desperately selecting examination towns, only to later accuse the Board of assigning them to locations that are far from their residences, towns, or states.”
He further clarified that the only states with remaining slots for the optional mock examination were Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, and Yobe. Candidates who still wish to participate in the mock exercise were urged to select examination towns in these states.

Candidates Urged to Make Thoughtful Choices | JAMB Exam 2025
Benjamin emphasized that while candidates have the right to choose their preferred examination locations, they must carefully consider the implications of their choices. He warned that some candidates might select towns that are significantly far from their places of residence, sometimes even outside their home states.
Once such selections are made, he stressed, the board should not be blamed for any inconvenience faced by candidates. The board operates on a system that allocates mock examination spaces based on availability, and once a town reaches its full capacity, it will no longer be available for selection.
“The Board allocates mock examination spaces for JAMB Exam 2025 candidates based on the availability of centres, and once a town’s capacity is reached, it will no longer be available for selection,” he explained.
Importance of the Mock Examination | JAMB Exam 2025
Benjamin reiterated that the mock examination is entirely optional and serves two main purposes. First, it provides interested candidates with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment before taking the actual JAMB Exam 2025. Second, it allows JAMB to assess its facilities and ensure the smooth conduct of the examination.
He stated that the mock examination was designed for “deserving candidates” who wish to gain firsthand experience of the CBT system. However, he noted that it should not be a reason for candidates to make impractical or hasty decisions about their examination towns, which could lead to unnecessary travel difficulties.
Travel and Logistics Considerations| JAMB Exam 2025
JAMB strongly advised candidates to choose their examination towns with travel logistics and convenience in mind. Candidates were urged to avoid selecting distant locations unless absolutely necessary.
“The Board does not want to be overstressed, as the mock examination is only meant to give deserving candidates the opportunity to experience the CBT environment and enable the Board to test its facilities.
“Candidates are encouraged to choose their examination towns consciously, considering their travel arrangements and personal convenience to ensure a smoother experience on examination day,” he added.
Benjamin assured candidates that JAMB remains committed to providing a seamless examination process but stressed that candidates must also play their part by making informed decisions.
As the registration process for the JAMB Exam 2025 continues, candidates are encouraged to make their selections wisely to avoid last-minute difficulties.
