JAMB Issues Final Warning Against Nocturnal UTME Registration
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strict warning to registration centers conducting nocturnal (nighttime) registrations for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across Nigeria.
In an official statement released on Sunday, February 2025, by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the examination board expressed serious concerns over the safety and security of candidates attending these late-night registration sessions. JAMB has ordered all affected centers to cease this practice immediately or risk facing severe penalties.
JAMB Condemns Unsafe Registration Practices
JAMB emphasized that while it acknowledges the efforts of registration centers in accommodating large numbers of candidates, such dedication should never come at the expense of personal safety.
“While JAMB appreciates the enthusiasm of these centres to accommodate as many candidates as possible, this should never come at the cost of the candidates’ personal safety and security,” Benjamin stated.
The Board noted that conducting UTME registration during the late hours of the night exposes candidates—many of whom are young students—to security risks, potential exploitation, and avoidable dangers. It stressed that such irregularities could compromise the integrity of the registration process.
List of Centers Engaging in Nocturnal Registrations
In a decisive move, JAMB has publicly named ten registration centers found guilty of violating the registration guidelines by conducting late-night enrollments. These centers are:
- Thomas Adewumi University, Kwara State
- CBT Centre Otukpo, Benue State
- Ebenezer International School, Rivers State
- Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel
- Lafiagi Emirate Information Hub, Kwara State
- Zulqud Consult Ltd, Abuja
- Klinnicapps Academy, Cross River State
- Sani Mikaila Comprehensive College, Plateau State
- Beeps Technology Ltd, Cross River State
- FZX Media Consulting Ltd, Cross River State
The Board has categorically warned these centers that no further notices will be issued before appropriate sanctions are enforced.
JAMB’s Commitment to Transparency and Fairness
JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the UTME registration process remains transparent, safe, and fair for all candidates. The Board emphasized that every accredited registration center must adhere strictly to the guidelines set forth to protect students from undue risk.
“The Board remains committed to monitoring the registration process to ensure strict adherence to all guidelines, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the exercise and promoting fairness and equity in the registration process,” the statement read.
To uphold fairness, JAMB urged all Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers to prioritize ethical practices over financial gains, ensuring that no candidate is subjected to unnecessary risks in the name of completing their registration.
No Further Warnings—Sanctions to Follow
JAMB made it clear that this public announcement serves as a final warning to all defaulting centers. Any registration center found engaging in nocturnal registrations beyond this point will face strict penalties, which may include:
- Permanent withdrawal of accreditation
- Legal action against violators
- Severe financial penalties
The Board urged candidates and parents to report any registration centers engaging in nighttime registration or other unethical practices to the appropriate authorities for swift intervention.
Guidelines for Proper UTME Registration
To ensure a smooth and legally compliant UTME registration process, JAMB has outlined the following approved steps:
- Candidates should only visit accredited JAMB CBT centers during official working hours.
- All registrations must be conducted in well-lit, secure environments to ensure safety.
- Parents and guardians should accompany their wards when necessary, to prevent exploitation.
- Payment for registration should be made only through official JAMB channels to avoid fraudulent practices.
- Candidates must verify their details carefully before submitting their application.
Candidates Advised to Register Early
JAMB has advised all UTME and Direct Entry candidates to complete their registration well before the April 7, 2025, deadline. This will help them:
- Avoid last-minute congestion at registration centers
- Prevent falling victim to unauthorized agents or fraudulent CBT centers
- Ensure they have enough time to verify their registration details and make corrections if necessary
By registering early and through approved centers, candidates can ensure a smooth and stress-free experience while preparing for their exams.
JAMB’s Zero-Tolerance Policy on Registration Violations
JAMB has continued to implement strict policies to maintain the integrity of the UTME registration process. Over the years, the Board has taken strong action against CBT centers engaging in fraudulent activities, including:
- Shutting down multiple centers found guilty of registration misconduct
- Revoking the licenses of centers involved in malpractice
- Introducing biometric verification to prevent impersonation and fraud
The Board has assured that it will not hesitate to sanction any institution or agent who tries to undermine the credibility of the registration process.
Conclusion
As the 2025 UTME registration continues, JAMB has sent a strong message to all registration centers: Nocturnal registration is strictly prohibited. The Board has named and warned centers engaging in this practice and has made it clear that no further warnings will be issued before penalties take effect.
Candidates are strongly advised to follow the approved registration process, avoid suspicious agents, and report any irregularities immediately. By ensuring a safe and transparent registration process, JAMB remains committed to protecting the future of Nigeria’s students and upholding the integrity of the UTME.
