What is the Yale Young Global Scholars Program?

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an academic enrichment program for outstanding high school students worldwide.

It is for high school students who are passionate about global issues and eager to expand their knowledge and skills in a collaborative environment.

Each summer, students from over 150 countries (including all 50 U.S. states) participate in one interdisciplinary, two-week session at Yale’s historic campus.

Eligibility Requirements for Yale Young Global Scholars Program

To apply for the YYGS Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Age: Be between 16-18 years old by July 20, 2025 (Session III start date).
  2. English Fluency: Be able to participate in an academic curriculum conducted in English.
  3. Grade Level: Be a current high school sophomore or junior (or international equivalent).
  4. Graduation Date: Graduate in May/June 2026 or 2027 (Northern Hemisphere) or November/December 2025 or 2026 (Southern Hemisphere).
  5. First-Time Participants: You must be a first-time participant in YYGS. Past attendees are not eligible for 2025.

Application Components

YYGS evaluates applications holistically.

  • Activities List: Include all extracurricular activities.
  • Essay: One 400-word essay and one 200-word response.
  • Fast Take Responses: Two short answers of 280 characters each.
  • School Transcript: An official copy is required.
  • Recommender: One recommender to complete the YYGS Recommendation Form.
  • Application Fee: $75 USD for Early Action or $90 USD for Regular Decision.
