Tinubu Announces New Scholarship Scheme for Caribbean Students Set to Launch Next Year!
President Bola Tinubu has announced that a scholarship program for Caribbean students to study at Nigerian universities will commence in the upcoming academic year.
This information was conveyed in a press release issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday.
During a joint press conference with Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre in Gros Islet on Monday, Tinubu expressed that this initiative, which is already in progress, is part of broader efforts to enhance people-to-people connections and increase cooperation in education, trade, and development between Nigeria and the OECS.
A joint implementation committee, consisting of representatives from Nigeria and OECS member states, has been established to finalize the details and ensure the timely launch of the scholarship program.
He stated, “I believe we can leverage our presence here to benefit from the resources that are within our reach and seize the opportunities available to us right here.
“The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States is very close to us in Africa, and I express my gratitude for the chance to address the joint session of Parliament and fulfill our aspirations of getting closer to enhancing business and educational opportunities, capacity building, and exploring other areas like agriculture and food security.
“We can achieve that easily by creating a working commission. There’s no need to look any further. The organization has already pointed out several initiatives. We are making progress from that point. We won’t let this slip.”
