FG Denies Agreement With ASUU – Minister Alausa

The Federal Government has rejected allegations that it entered into agreements with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), clarifying that the documents in question were simply proposals.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, provided this clarification on Thursday while speaking to reporters in Abuja.

He explained that the 2009 and 2011 documents frequently referenced by the Academic Staff Union of Universities as binding agreements were never formally signed; they were only proposals offered during discussions.

Alausa emphasized that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains dedicated to addressing ongoing challenges with the university lecturers’ union.

“The documents that ASUU has been calling agreements were merely proposals that were not signed,” Alausa remarked.

The minister also refuted claims that he had arranged a meeting with ASUU and the Minister of Labour and Employment, labeling them as incorrect.
