What to Do After JAMB CAPS Shows Your Admission Offer
- Accept the Offer
The following step is to accept your admission on JAMB CAPS. This is typically the first action every candidate takes upon seeing that exciting news on their screen. However, if you have any reason (as explained in my recent article) to decline the school that granted you admission, you have the option to reject it.
For documentation purposes, you should print the JAMB CAPS page that indicates your admission status or check your admission status directly after accepting it.
- Print JAMB Admission Letter and Original JAMB Result
Every candidate who has been admitted is required to print both the JAMB admission letter and the original result.
If you need clarification on what these two documents are and how to print them, I discussed that in my post “How to Print JAMB Admission Letter and Original JAMB Result.”
Essentially, the schools request these documents to verify that you are indeed the true owner (and actual author of your UTME) of the result and admission.
Your JAMB admission letters and results will feature the candidate’s passport photo as used for UTME. Both must be printed in color to be accepted as originals.
In general, it’s one of the requirements set by JAMB that all institutions must ask for these documents, and candidates must present them during the entry documentation and screening process.
- Visit the School’s Admission Portal to Accept Your Admission
In addition to JAMB, schools offering admission also mandate candidates to accept their offers on the school’s portal.
Make sure to visit the school portal and check your admission status as well. Keep in mind that many candidates who have already received admission offers on JAMB CAPS may still need to check their admission status on the schools’ portals. Wait until your school opens that option. Then ensure you act promptly.
Checking and accepting your admission status on the school’s portal might require the payment of an acceptance fee. This is a common practice, as nearly all schools require admitted students to pay this fee before proceeding.
- Print the School Admission Letter
If provided, make sure to print your school’s admission letter as well. This document will be important later. I recommend printing it in color for authenticity.
Be aware that not all institutions supply school admission letters; some rely solely on the JAMB documents.
- Avoid Paying School Fees Before Documentation/Screening
Following your admission offer, schools typically request the payment of an acceptance fee. Then, you’ll need to report to the school (on a later date or immediately) to submit all your credentials for screening and documentation.
It’s only after this process that you will be allowed to pay the school fees.
Even if you find the option to pay school fees after settling the acceptance fee, refrain from doing so just yet. Go for your screening and documentation first. Then you can make your payment afterward.
The primary reason for this is that if you pay the tuition before the screening, and during the screening, you are rejected or not cleared for admission, you’ll have effectively wasted your tuition as it is non-refundable.
- Complete Freshers Registration on the Students Portal
After paying the acceptance fee, being cleared, and completing tuition payment, you will officially become a recognized student of your institution.
The next step is to register as a new student. This process will grant you access to your own student portal. You will use this portal for your academic activities until you graduate.
