“We Saw Only Answers!” — UTME Candidates Share Shocking 2025 Exam Experience, JAMB Responds
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, or JAMB, reviewed the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, or UTME, due to the uproar from parents and the sadness experienced by many candidates.
However, other applicants told Vanguard about their UTME exam experiences before JAMB made that choice.
JAMB ought to examine the findings. One candidate, who is 15 years old, said, “I was a little anxious. However, the exam was good overall. I had no issues in the exam room, and it was easier than I had anticipated. My PC operated flawlessly. However, I received a score of 145.
But I’m positive that I performed better than this. If they could look over the findings, I would be grateful.
Responses devoid of inquiries: One applicant stated, “I attended a private school in Lagos to write my UTME. I had a fairly typical encounter.
Nevertheless, some of the questions only had the (response) possibilities and no questions at all. There were perhaps fifteen of them.
The supervisor instructed us to select replies at random and assured us that the problem would undoubtedly be resolved at headquarters.
I received slightly above 200 on my English Language, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry exams. However, I’ve been hearing a lot of talk regarding this year’s scores.
I am eighteen years old, and I received a score of 234 on my test. Despite being stressful because I had to leave my house by 6:30 a.m., the exam wasn’t too difficult. We ended up writing the paper after 8 p.m., or just before 9 p.m., even though it was supposed to be finished by 7.30 a.m.
Before the exam officially began, we had to go through several tense procedures, like fingerprinting.
Since it was my first time, I had to patch myself up and make small adjustments.
“I had a few problems at first since I didn’t know how to access my JAMB account. The student seated next to me didn’t do much to help.
I combined writing in English, government, economics, and mathematics. I had to rush back to the government after starting math because the first five problems were difficult. I hurried to economics as soon as I finished writing my government. Since economics was one of my strongest topics in school, it wasn’t that difficult.
The only difficulty we encountered in English was that the book we were asked to read for the 2025 test did not contain the anticipated questions. Despite the book’s 160 pages, I only saw nine of its queries. After that, I went on to mathematics, which was challenging. In the end, I received a 53 out of 100 in mathematics.
“I would have done better in this year’s JAMB,” a 2025 UTME candidate told Vanguard. However, there were numerous obstacles because of our nation’s educational standards. Many people’s scores were not released. One person I know had to double-check her findings before the final ones were released. Her initial score was 194. She made another attempt and received a score of 286.
Just last night (Tuesday), another girl I know had to verify her results. She ultimately received a score of 174 despite all the stress and preparation classes.
I am aware that she had to leave the house by 6:30 a.m., which is a sign of stress. I had to walk a considerable distance before I could ride a bike because of the ongoing road work. I then found myself at the incorrect UTME center.
We started the exam at around 9 p.m., and there were 200 of us when I eventually got there. The thumbprinting was completed before that. The machine was not reacting to the thumbs, so some applicants had to go wash their hands and clean them before reapplying.
“The managers were cruel. They were not even prepared to help. Not even to those who are new. “Did you go for CBT training?” they would ask. You learned this and that, didn’t you? I needed to speak with them. I believe the females recognized that I was experiencing a few problems. At that point, someone assisted me with my problems.
“I am sixteen years old,” another contestant told Vanguard. My exam was written on May 26. I received a score of 166. However, I am aware that my actual score cannot be that. I wrote on government, economics, mathematics, and English.
For me, the English was straightforward. Regarding the other candidates, I have no idea.
Then, because I truly followed the JAMB syllabus and studied everything, government was also quite easy for me. Similar to the government, economics was also relatively basic. The math was also passable.
“I received a score of 45 in math, 41 in government, and 44 in English. I believed that my math score should be low. How is a result like this possible? Everything at the CBT (exam) Center went without a hitch.
“I’m not sure; perhaps the exam’s marking was done incorrectly. However, that score? It can’t possibly be for me. In economics, I received a score of 41. There is no chance of it happening at all.
