WAEC Speaks Out: We Don’t Withhold Results Without Reason—Official Clarifies!
Citing worries over her son’s mental health, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) responded on Thursday to a recent national daily publication on a mother’s request for the release of her son’s West African Examinations Council certificate.
This was said in a statement by Moyosola Adesina, the interim head of public affairs at the West African Examinations Council, Yaba, Lagos, who clarified its regular procedures and firmly denied allegations of arbitrarily withholding candidate results.
According to the council, results are never withheld without good reason. Affected candidates’ results are only withheld, according to WAEC, in response to complaints of exam fraud or other irregularities.
Affected candidates are formally informed of the accusations against them after such reports. After that, it is suggested that they use the WAEC Notice of Examinations Malpractice portal to submit their arguments.
According to WAEC, details regarding this portal are regularly shared on the council’s official social media accounts and in press releases that are sent out after the results of each exam diet are announced. Additionally, before each exam, session notes and registration materials are used to inform candidates and examination staff about these procedures.
