WAEC Announces 45-Day Release Timeline for Computer-Based SSCE Results!
Beginning next week, 1,973,253 applicants will take the inaugural computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination, according to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Dr. Amos Dangut, the head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, said this at a news conference on Thursday at the WAEC National Office in Yaba, Lagos.
According to him, Nigeria would host the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025, from Thursday, April 24, to Friday, June 20, 2025.
Dangut pledged that certificates would be given out within 90 days of the last paper being provided and that the results of the 2025 exam would be made public 45 days later.
“The WAEC Digital Certificate platform will make digital copies of certificates available,” he stated.
The council claims that the CB WASSCE was designed to reduce malpractice and enhance the way exams are administered.
Regarding enrollment, Dangut reported that there were 158,000 more applicants than the previous year and that there are more women taking the test than men.
“The council has launched its first computer-based WASSCE for school candidates, 2025,” he stated.
In all, 1,973,253 applicants from 23,554 institutions have signed up to take the test, which is more than 158,000 more than the year before.
“Of this total, 979,228 are men (49.63 percent) and 994,025 are women (50.37 percent), indicating a sustained increase in female involvement,” he stated.
He went on to say that the test will consist of 196 papers covering 74 disciplines and that more than 26,000 senior high school teachers nationally will be acting as supervisors.
The fact that two candidates won’t be asked the same questions on each number starting this year will be of importance to you. To maintain academic integrity, this is a component of a paradigm shift in test administration methods, he stated.
Regarding exam malpractice, Dangut advised students, instructors, and institutions to closely follow the guidelines.
Exam malpractice is dealt with decisively by the council. Preprinted copies of the candidates’ CB-WASSCE 2025 paper versions are available. There would be repercussions for any applicant who decides to write a different paper from the one that was provided, he stated.
He urged media outlets to back WAEC’s awareness initiatives and urged parents, educators, and school administrators to oppose misconduct.
Teachers and school administrators should educate their students about the perils of this heinous crime against humanity. For the wise, a word suffices,” he added.
Dangut noted that WAEC had launched several internet tools to help applicants prepare.
“WAEC E-Learning Portal offers performance analysis and solutions to common challenges faced by students; WAEC Konnect facilitates communication and updates for candidates and stakeholders; and WAEC E-Study Portal gives access to past questions, marking schemes, and learning plans,” he stated.
“To help candidates understand expectations and enhance performance, WAEC has also compiled Chief Examiners’ Reports and Past Question Papers for a variety of subject areas.”
Additionally, Dangut warned operators of rogue websites that they pose a threat to Nigerian students’ futures.
Doctor Dangut issued a warning, saying, “Parents are hereby cautioned to desist from patronizing these evildoers who are hell-bent on frustrating the efforts of WAEC.” “As always, we will collaborate closely with the Nigerian Police Force to hold offenders accountable.”
Dangut admitted that security concerns have previously impacted how exams were conducted in some regions of the nation.
“The council has continued to partner with the Nigeria Police Force and state governments to ensure the smooth and hitch-free conduct of the examination,” he said, adding that conducting exams in such circumstances has been difficult but manageable.
