Kano Varsity Expels 34, Suspends 13 for Exam Malpractice

The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, located in Wudil, Kano State, has dismissed 34 students for exam malpractice.

Additionally, 13 students have been rusticated for one academic year, while several others have received warning letters.

This information was shared in a statement from Abdullahi Datti, Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations Unit of the university, which was made available to PUNCH Online on Friday.

The disciplinary measures were taken after the university senate approved the report from the Examinations Regulations and Irregularities Committee during its 123rd meeting on October 9, 2025.

“The report contains recommendations for various punishments for students who were found guilty of examination malpractice,” the statement indicated.

In a different initiative, the university has set up a Centre for Equipment Maintenance aimed at improving the upkeep and functionality of academic and research equipment throughout its faculties.

As per the statement, the centre will establish preventive maintenance schedules, offer repair services for malfunctioning equipment, and conduct regular training for staff and students on the proper use and basic maintenance of equipment.

The university’s vice-chancellor, Prof Musa Yakasai, has appointed Dr Murtala Dambatta from the Department of Mechanical Engineering as the inaugural director of the centre.
