UTME 2025: JAMB Uncovers Identity Fraud, Biometric Scams & 244 WhatsApp ‘Runs’ Cases Nationwide!
In the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) discovered numerous instances of exam malpractice, such as identity theft, biometric fraud, and 244 instances of candidates subscribing to “WhatsApp runs” for leaked questions.
At a press conference held on Friday at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, where he formally announced the release of the 2025 UTME results, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede disclosed this information.
Prof. Oloyede said the board has withheld the results of the 244 candidates involved in the cheating syndicate and pledged that serious punishments would follow.
The quantity of results that were not included
According to JAMB, it has withheld 96 results because of verified violations, down from 123 withheld results in 2024.
In the meantime, 1,426 candidates are being investigated for possible wrongdoing, and 39,834 results are still being looked into.
“The Board has discovered that some of these candidates’ registration information contains superfluous fingers. This raises questions about possible impersonation tactics. This category includes 3,656 applicants in total. As a result, the candidates’ results have been suppressed,” Oloyede continued.
He pointed out that 2,157 applicants had their fingerprints rejected, which is much higher than average.
CBT centres under investigation
JAMB identified several computer-based test (CBT) centers implicated in aiding malpractice and multiple registrations. The affected centers include
- Tigh Technologies Limited
- Sascon International School, Maitama, Abuja
- Wudil Computer Information Technology, Kano State
- Penta M & Centre 2, Tambuwal LGA, Sokoto State
Oloyede said some CBT centers allegedly aided candidates in bypassing biometric protocols, noting that in some cases, entire syndicates colluded with CBT centers to register using multiple fingerprints.
- He added that 80 suspects are currently being interrogated by the Nigerian Police over their roles in the examination fraud, and many of them would be prosecuted.
Regarding underage candidates, JAMB said that of the 41,027 candidates below the age of 16 who registered for the UTME, only 467 met the high-performance exemption criteria. One was disqualified for examination malpractice.
Additional information
Although one candidate was found to have engaged in impersonation, the Registrar also provided updates on the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), a special initiative created to provide fair testing conditions for candidates with disabilities. Of these, 501 were successfully examined across 11 centers nationwide.
During the 2025 UTME, JAMB delisted four CBT centers due to technical issues and poor service, including
- Adventure Associate, Behind Sheshe Supermarket, Kano
- Saadatu Rimi College of Education, Zaria
- Soronara Ventures Nigeria Limited, Mbaitoli, Imo State
- HSS Amazing, Holy Saviour School, Itele, Ogun State
Oloyede noted that a separate list of CBT centres blacklisted for fraudulent practices would be made public soon.
