NASU, SSANU suspend ongoing strike
The current strike has been put on hold for a month, according to the Joint Action Committee, or JAC, of non-teaching staff unions in tertiary institutions, with effect from November 5th.
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) are members of JAC.
In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi and SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim jointly signed the statement.

Recall that on October 28, JAC ordered its members to go on indefinite strike to demand that four months’ worth of salaries be withheld and that other demands be carried out.
It said that lengthy discussions with the federal government led to the agreement to halt the current strike for a month.
He claimed that these high-level discussions resulted in the federal government making an unchangeable pledge that two of the four months’ salary would be paid in installments.
The second month will be paid by the end of November, he added, adding that the agreement had already been paid in October 2024.

“Given the foregoing and the degree of dedication demonstrated by the Department of State Services’ leadership and the new Minister of Education.”
Following multiple discussions and other patriotic considerations, the JAC leadership has decided to halt the current strike for a month, beginning on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
This directive instructs NASU and SSANU branch heads to hold a joint congress on their respective campuses.
“We would like to restate that the remaining two months, the N5O billion earned allowances, the 25/35 percent arrears, and the Wage Award have been reviewed and are currently being discussed,” the statement stated.
