UNN Launches Short Courses in Content Creation, More

The Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has launched a short-term certificate course on digital content creation and editing. This initiative aims to meet the growing interest of Nigerian youth in the digital creative field.

During the announcement, Professor Emenike Ejiogu, the Director of ACE-SPED, explained that this hybrid professional program aims to improve creativity and equip participants with practical skills for producing high-quality digital content that reflects positive societal values.

He noted that the course covers the entire content-creation process, from initial planning and production to editing and sharing engaging text, images, audio, and video for different digital platforms.

“Key modules in the course include content strategy, audience analysis, copywriting, visual design, multimedia production, and performance analytics,” Ejiogu said.

He emphasized that ACE-SPED has a large studio filled with state-of-the-art equipment for recording and producing music videos, podcasts, instructional videos, and comedy skits. This facility is known as the Centre of Competence in Digital Education and Content Creation (C-CoDE-CC).

“The short course is one way we are making sure Nigerian youth benefit from the resources at our Centre,” he added.

Ejiogu also mentioned that the digital content creation course is part of a series of ten new professional short courses that ACE-SPED has recently introduced.

He listed additional courses, including Management of Technology and Innovation, Industrial Automation and Instrumentation, Energy Management, Policy and Regulation, Material Characterization, Bio-energy Technologies, Design and Installation of Solar PV Mini-grid and Stand-alone Systems, Renewable Energy Applications for Enhanced Agricultural Production, and 3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing).

The ACE-SPED Director clarified that, unlike traditional postgraduate programs, these professional short courses focus on providing focused, practical training within a flexible timeframe of about 40 hours, which can be completed in one week to three months. Participants will receive certificates for their skills after completion.
