Department of Civil Engineering, under the Faculty of Engineering, is well-known for its advanced code of conduct, research, and innovative approaches to the world of engineering. In order to give students the knowledge and abilities to face the challenges of civil engineering, the department offers a broad variety of undergraduate and graduate courses.

About the University of Nigeria, Nuskka.

UNN Department of Civil EngineeringThe University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was founded in 1960. The university is regarded as one of the leading universities in Nigeria. It was established by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and is well known for its extensive undergraduate and graduate program offerings as well as its dedication to academic quality. It is situated in Nsukka, Enugu State. The university seeks to uphold human dignity by doing extensive research and teaching.

About the Faculty of Engineering

In 1961, it was formally known as the College of Engineering. When the college was founded, it was renamed the Faculty of Engineering, and it became the country’s first engineering faculty in a university in Nigeria.

Prof. J.A. Veltrop was the first dean of this great faculty. Prof. Emenike Ejiogu, an electrical engineering professor, is the current dean of this faculty. The faculty has had twenty-five deans since its founding. Senior lecturers and above make up half of the academic personnel. The eight departments have a combined total of 2438 students.

About the Department

This is a fundamental engineering course in Nigeria concerned with the design of buildings, structures, and maintenance of the built environment, such as roads, bridges, dams, flyovers, and buildings.
One of the main responsibilities of civil engineers is to guarantee the sustainability, safety, and functionality of these structures. Civil engineers also play a crucial role in ensuring that infrastructure projects adhere to environmental regulations and standards.
They must consider factors such as population growth, climate change, and natural disasters when designing and maintaining structures. lots more. The field encompasses a number of fields of expertise, including environmental, transportation, geotechnical, and structural engineering.

School Fees for Civil Engineering

The cost of attending the Department of Civil Engineering varies based on study level. The fees for Nigerian undergraduate students normally range from ₦50,000 to ₦100,000 per session. Fees for newly admitted students could be higher, because of additional fees like; Accommodations, textbooks, and other educational supplies, which are extra expenses.

Qualifications for Admission into Civil Engineering

In order to be admitted to this department, applicants must fulfill a number of conditions, including high academic standards, success in UTME exams, and additional standards established by the engineering faculty and institution.

JAMB Subject Combination

Those who want to apply for civil engineering should consider the following subjects during their Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration:

  • Use of English
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

The demand for civil engineering curriculum has a solid foundation in these subjects

O’ Level Requirements

A minimum of five (5) O’ Level credits in each of the following subjects is required of candidates:

  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • One other subject (preferably a science or technical subject)

These credits can only be earned in two sittings on tests like the WAEC, NECO, or an equivalent.

UNN Departmental Cutoff Mark

Each year, the UNN cutoff score is established by considering candidates’ results from both the UNN Post-UTME and the JAMB UTME. A minimum JAMB score of 200 is often needed, however, because admission is competitive, higher marks greatly increase the likelihood of acceptance.

UNN Department of Civil Engineering, Direct Entry.

Direct entry candidates aiming to enter this program must have:

  • at least two (2) A-level passes in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
  • ND/HND with a minimum of upper credit in a related field.
  • first degree in a related discipline.

These qualifications are assessed alongside the candidate’s O’ Level results to determine eligibility.

Alternatives to Civil Engineering

For students interested in related fields, there are several alternatives within and outside the engineering discipline:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Architecture Engineering
  • Urban and Regional Planning

These alternatives offer diverse career paths and opportunities for those interested in different aspects of engineering and design.

In conclusion, this department provides a comprehensive and competitive program designed to prepare students for successful careers in engineering. With rigorous admission requirements and a commitment to excellence, UNN remains a top choice for aspiring civil engineers in Nigeria.
