2025 UTME: UNILORIN VC Applauds JAMB Registrar for Bold Admission of Errors
Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has received praise from Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, for his open and responsible leadership in resolving concerns regarding the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Professor Egbewole commended the board’s strategy for handling the controversies that followed the announcement of the UTME results in a letter dated May 15, 2025, which was posted on Facebook.
According to PUNCHONLINE, Oloyede acknowledged during a news conference on Wednesday that there were mistakes in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
“As a university, we want to put on record the fact that the board approached the issues that arose as a result with truthfulness, and nothing was hidden from the public,” the vice chancellor wrote in the letter, specifically addressing the public admission of errors that affected over 300,000 candidates.
In his praise of the JAMB registrar’s dedication to moral leadership, he pointed out that the way the matter was handled showed “courage, honesty of purpose, integrity, and strength of character” and that it was an example for the next generation.
In particular, the vice chancellor praised the board’s uncommon choice to take full responsibility for the mistakes, even if the service provider was at fault.
He claims that such honesty and transparency are “uncommon phenomena in Nigeria.”
In addition to recognizing the JAMB Registrar as a notable UNILORIN alumnus, Professor Egbewole expressed the university’s delight in his outstanding leadership and called him a “worthy ambassador” of the school.
“We pray that God will continue to guide you and give you the grace to serve our nation with even greater value,” he continued.
After thousands of applicants’ results were disrupted due to technical issues with the 2025 UTME, JAMB quickly intervened, apologized publicly, and took action to resolve the impacted candidates.
