UNILAG Urges Candidates to Check JAMB CAPS for Course Changes

The administration of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has released a significant announcement to all prospective candidates, informing them that several applicants who fell short of the official cut-off marks for their chosen courses have been redirected to alternative programs. This decision follows a thorough evaluation of admission outcomes and the availability of positions in various departments for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In an official memo signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs V. Abosede Wickliffe, dated Saturday, October 25, 2025, the university detailed that the reassignment procedure was executed following established admission protocols and in partnership with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The university stated that the goal is to ensure that deserving candidates are not entirely excluded from admission opportunities due to minor deficiencies in their preferred course selections.

The statement instructed all impacted candidates to check their JAMB profiles and Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) starting Monday, October 27, 2025, for updates regarding their admission status. Candidates are encouraged to log into their JAMB CAPS accounts to confirm whether they have been assigned new courses and to take immediate action on their offers.

UNILAG further stressed that candidates must ACCEPT or REJECT any new course offered to them within 24 hours of receiving the notification on JAMB CAPS. The university highlighted that this time-sensitive requirement is crucial for the seamless continuation of the admissions process and for candidates to maintain their eligibility for new offers.

The administration warned that failing to act promptly within the specified 24-hour window will result in the automatic loss of admission, regardless of the candidate’s qualifications in other areas. It is therefore called on all affected applicants to closely monitor their CAPS accounts to avoid missing out on possible offers.

“Candidates are therefore urged to regularly check their CAPS and respond without delay,” the statement partially read. The university reiterated that it would not consider complaints from candidates who do not respond within the designated timeframe, as all notifications will be communicated directly through JAMB’s official platform.

This directive is in line with JAMB’s national admission policy, which requires candidates to explicitly accept or decline admission offers on CAPS to guarantee accurate data synchronization across all higher education institutions. It also aids in maintaining transparency in the admissions process and preventing multiple or conflicting offers from different universities.

The University of Lagos administration clarified that the choice to assign alternative programs to some candidates was made after meticulous consideration of merit, admission limits, and program capacity. The new placements, they indicated, demonstrate the university’s commitment to balancing fairness and adherence to regulatory standards while enhancing access to quality higher education.

Candidates who receive notifications of new placements are encouraged to thoroughly examine the details of the proposed programs before making their choices. The administration assured that the alternative courses fall within the same academic quality framework as the candidates’ initial selections and are equally aligned with the university’s standards of academic excellence.

With this latest announcement, the University of Lagos reaffirmed its dedication to fairness, transparency, and merit-based admissions. The institution urged all candidates to adhere to the appropriate procedures as directed by both UNILAG and JAMB. By doing so, the university aims to ensure a smooth process for all involved.
