Tinubu Approves ₦50 Billion to Settle ASUU and Other Unions—Relief for Nigerian Universities!
As promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the federal government has released N50 billion to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and non-academic staff unions of federal universities for the settlement of earned allowances, according to Education Minister Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa.
The Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, made this announcement on Wednesday in Abuja.
The historic development, she said, is just another indication of President Tinubu’s steadfast resolve to drastically overhaul Nigeria’s educational system.
She said the fund’s release demonstrates the administration’s audacious determination to make strategic investments in infrastructure, human capital, and education to move the country from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy.
“This intervention is not just a financial transaction—it is a reaffirmation of our president’s belief in the capacity of Nigerian youth and the invaluable role that academic and non-academic staff play in nurturing them,” stated Dr. Olatunji Alausa, Minister of Education. By putting their welfare first, we are setting the stage for a time when all Nigerian children will have access to top-notch, internationally competitive education.
He conveyed the sincere gratitude of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to academic and non-academic unions for their continued faith in his government and for promoting harmony and collaboration among Nigeria’s federal institutions.
“The government and university community have a mutual understanding and shared commitment, which is why the country is currently experiencing one of the longest uninterrupted academic sessions in recent history,” the statement continued.
President Tinubu was cited as saying, “Our nation’s youth are its lifeblood.” My administration and I place a great deal of importance on their future. We cannot compromise on keeping our kids in school. I promise that shortly, strikes in our institutions will be permanently eliminated.
To guarantee that every Nigerian kid has access to high-quality education that is on par with international standards, the minister of education has promised to keep collaborating with all parties involved in the education value chain.
The statement went on to say, “This announcement represents a major milestone in the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and reaffirms the Federal Government’s commitment to making Nigeria’s educational system a shining example for Africa and the world.”
