Thumbprint Fraud: JAMB Warns CBT Centers, Offenders May Face Prosecution!
The operators of computer-based test (CBT) centers and other interested parties met with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday to discuss examination violations, such as criminal biometric thumb printing for applicants registering for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede criticized the CBT center operators for naively supporting exam malpractice by thumbprinting candidates in proxy during the meeting at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Kado-Kuchi, Abuja.
He stated that he would write to Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, on the next course of action following the CBT center proprietors’ admission of guilt.
“CBT centers should help JAMB curb infractions and not aid candidates in perpetuating exam malpractices with fingerprint infractions,” he said, lamenting the situation of a candidate who was foolishly registered with her sister’s fingerprints.
We have a lot of equipment to deal with crooks,” he stated. Our technology is appropriate. When violations are found, the center and the persons involved will face repercussions. If they don’t assist us, the center and individuals won’t get away with it. I find it strange that someone would claim in 2025 that he is unaware of the importance of biometrics.
