Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, has approved the appointment of Bashir Garba, a Professor of Applied Chemistry, as the university’s new substantive Vice-Chancellor (SSU).
The appointment followed a recommendation to the governor from the University Joint Council and the Senate Selection Board.
Mr. Garba, 56, will succeed Suleiman Dangoggo, a chemistry professor whose five-year tenure ended this year. Mr. Dangoggo was named VC in 2017.
Governor Tambuwal also approved the appointment of Kuluwa Abubakar Nuhu as the state university’s new Registrar.
Mrs Nuhu, for her part, is best known as a seasoned university administrator and former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Deputy Registrar at Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto’s Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
Both appointments are effective immediately, according to Muhammad Bello, Mr Tambuwa’s special adviser on media and publicity.
