Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the Lagos State Government Professorial Chair of Transport Studies at Lagos State University’s School of Transport. The Professorial Chair of Transport Studies Endowment will be known as the Lagos State Government Professorial Chair of Transport Studies.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Transportation Studies or a related field, as well as ten [10] years post-doctoral teaching/research experience in a university or a research/training institute. The candidate must also have a sufficient number of scholarly publications, administrative experience, and evidence of academic leadership. An Associate Professor with at least three (3) years of experience or a serving Professor with significant Teaching/Research experience in a university may also apply. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to participate in multidisciplinary research as well as reasonable administrative experience.
DEFINITION:
The endowed professorship (or Endowed Chair) is a position that receives a monthly salary and other benefits from an endowment fund established specifically for that purpose and for scholarly/creative/research support.
The chair’s occupant must, among other things, have an acceptable academic orientation or focus and be able to organize one or more public lectures per year.
He/she will also conduct advanced research in his/her area of specialization and submit an annual report to the Vice Chancellor on his/her activities. This report is then forwarded to the Chair of the Lagos State Government’s donor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chair’s goal is to gain global expertise in order to improve research and teaching in transportation studies. The Chair will be appointed by a Professor who will:
In Transport Studies, I teach, conduct research, initiate development strategies, and encourage innovation; I also advise the Lagos State Government on critical transportation issues in the state.
accept specific research briefs from the Lagos State Government or the State Commissioner for Transport via Lagos State University;
promote information packaging and dissemination for public awareness in order to solve Lagos State’s and Nigeria’s transportation challengesdevelop transportation management policies in accordance with global best practices; provide pro bono community service, such as advising government and non-profit organizations; mentor and assess students in their academic training and research, including thesis supervision
TENURE
The Professorial Chair will be appointed for a 5-year term, with the possibility of re-appointment based on satisfactory performance.
REQUIREMENTS FOR AGE
Candidate for the position of Endowed Professorial Chair of Transport Studies must not be more than Sixty Four (64) years of age as at the date of this publication.
REMUNERATION
The Endowed Professorial Chair is compensated in the following ways:
Monthly Allowances as applicable; Annual Research Allowance; Annual Foreign Travel Allowance; Annual Local Travel Allowance; Annual Sponsorship for Seminars, Conferences, and Publications.
