Anambra Set to Shut Down All Unapproved Schools by September

All owners of private schools operating without official approval have been instructed by the Anambra State Government to secure the required authorization by September or risk closure.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, issued the warning Thursday during a meeting of private school owners in Awka.

Chuma-Udeh questioned why, despite several warnings and a lengthy grace period, the required approvals had not been obtained sooner.

She declared that there would be no more delays.

“The state nevertheless has a large number of unapproved private schools. The governor’s deadline for closing these schools has passed.

“The school owners are continuously putting things off, despite the fact that I obtained authorization from the governor to extend the period and have been delaying the task force.

“The purpose of this meeting is to determine the cause of the approval delay. However, we shall close those schools if they have not been approved by the start of the first term.

“We have granted enough grace, and that is what the law requires,” she stated.

Some school owners claimed that scammers posing as government representatives had come to their institutions to demand money.

The commissioner pledged to investigate the complaint and take appropriate action.
