“Say No to Exam Malpractice”—JAMB” Registrar Warns 2025 UTME Candidates Against Cheating

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has reaffirmed that applicants may only pass exams by working hard in their studies and not by cheating.

Speaking to reporters during a 2025 mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) assessment on Thursday at the Board Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, the registrar offered the suggestion.

According to Mr. Oloyede, the board was working tirelessly to make sure the process prepared the system for the major exam, and at least 211,000 students took the mock exam across the country on Thursday.

He claimed that in addition to providing candidates with a chance to assess their readiness for the actual exam, the exercise allowed the board to test and experiment with novel approaches that might be used to deal with violations.

In order to apply the lessons learned from the mock to the actual exam, we are experimenting and testing new things that may uncover previously unknown information.

We must inform students that studying is the only effective way to pass exams, especially the UTME, and that any other approach would only result in them being taken advantage of.

“We are aware of some fraudulent websites that claim to be able to help but in reality are cheating by asking people to pay up to N30,000,” he said.

”We are abreast of all these methods used to cut corners and we are doing everything possible to handle it

Additionally, we launched our own pirate websites, and as of this morning, 180 students had contributed money to the account in order to receive help.

“Those who paid into those accounts in search of questions would be dealt with firmly,” he stated, adding that this attempt to cheat is already illegal.

Additionally, he recalls cautioning applicants against sharing their registration number with others or registering for the test through a proxy.

He stated that this was to prevent becoming a victim of any kind of malpractice or fraudulent activity, as well as dishonest mischief-makers.

“If you give your registration number to someone and they submit it to a rogue station, you are responsible,” Mr. Oloyede stated. “We will annul the results of all those we find wanting, both for UTME and.

The registrar added that the exercise had gone well thus far and that the candidates’ scores from the mock exam would be available and made public on Friday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the 2025 UTME will start on April 25.
