Reps Panel Calls for Independent Investigation Into 2025 UTME Errors — JAMB Under Scrutiny!
An impartial inquiry into the human error that interfered with the administration of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been demanded by the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education Examination bodies.
The committee’s chairman, Hon. Oforji Oboku, told reporters at the National Assembly on Tuesday that the committee is collaborating closely with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on important reforms meant to restore the examination process’s legitimacy.
“The deployment of independent monitors across all six geopolitical zones is one of the key measures under consideration to ensure transparency and accountability in future UTME exercises,” he said.
“The candidates, their parents, and the Nigerian people have our deepest apologies. Oboku stated, “This disruption is unprecedented in JAMB’s history and must never happen again.”
Though he argued that the mistakes were completely preventable and indicated institutional failure, he praised JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede for his openness and public apology.
“We must be clear that this was a preventable lapse, but the Registrar has shown uncommon courage by taking responsibility.” “The country and our students deserve better,” he said.
Oboku emphasized the need for reform even further, cautioning that the educational system cannot tolerate another crisis of this magnitude.
There is no way to delay the drive for accountability. “Our educational system’s integrity is in jeopardy,” he stated.
The committee reiterated its dedication to bolstering monitoring, promoting systemic changes, and restoring public trust in Nigeria’s examination authorities.
