Reps Panel Acknowledges Receiving Documents From JAMB
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has met the request from the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies by submitting all the documents asked for by lawmakers.
These documents were submitted during the Committee’s meeting at the National Assembly on Thursday.
In his opening comments, Committee Chairman Hon. Oboku Oforji said the inquiry started from a resolution passed by the House on May 15, 2025, after a motion of urgent public importance.
He mentioned that the House aims to understand the reasons behind the disruptions during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). They are also looking into the idea of setting up at least one Computer-Based Test (CBT) center in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas to avoid future problems.
Oforji noted that the Committee is reviewing JAMB’s budget performance and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from 2023 to now. This includes documentation of remittances to the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) and the Board’s bank statements for the same period.
He highlighted that the Committee’s role is strictly oversight and is not aimed at any particular agency.
“This Committee is not here to target any institution. We expect full cooperation from agencies in providing the requested documents and participating in briefings. This cooperation is vital for effective parliamentary oversight,” he said.
However, Oforji expressed disappointment with the behavior of the official who represented JAMB at the previous Committee meeting. He referred to the incident on October 29, 2025, when Mr. Muftau Bello, the delegate, reportedly walked out after he was asked to introduce himself.
He warned that Parliament will not tolerate disrespectful behavior from any government agency.
“No ministry or agency will be allowed to intimidate or undermine the authority of Parliament. Our actions are based on Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution, which give us the power to oversee MDAs,” he cautioned.
The chairman confirmed that the required documents had been submitted and assured that the Committee would thoroughly review them and follow up with the Board.
In response, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede apologized for the earlier incident involving his representative. He emphasized that he holds the National Assembly in high regard and would never intentionally disrespect its authority.
Oloyede confirmed that all documents requested by the lawmakers had been provided to the Committee.
