Over 8,200 FUK Students Benefit as NELFUND Disburses ₦1 Billion in Student Loans!
The vice chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Professor Umaru Pate, praised the federal government on Tuesday for launching the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, noting that more than 8,266 students have received assistance amounting to over one billion naira.
Pate shared this information in Kashere during a press conference announcing the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth convocation ceremonies for the distribution of diplomas, degrees, and awards and the awarding of honorary doctorate degrees.
He mentioned that in recent years, no educational initiative has achieved as many significant outcomes as NELFUND.
He stated, “The president has greatly supported this university over the past year. More than 8,266 students here have benefited from N1,073,966,500 through NELFUND. The federal government covered their service charges and monthly living expenses.”
“For the past two decades, no program has had such a profound impact on students’ lives as NELFUND.”
“We remain hopeful that many more of our students will enroll today, as this program is aiding students throughout Nigeria.”
While revealing the academic performances of graduating students, Pate noted that at least 91 students out of a total of 6,870 earned first-class honors in various disciplines.
He elaborated, “Of the 6,870 undergraduates, 91 first-class students represent one percent of the total.”
“3,917 students received second lower degrees, which is 57 percent, while 1,899 achieved second class upper, representing 28 percent, and 960 will graduate with third class degrees, with three earning pass degrees.”
“Out of the total graduates, 4,791 are male, making up about 70 percent, while 2,079 are female.”
“This serves as a reminder for us to put in more effort to boost enrollment numbers.”
