OAU Suspends 2025/2026 Admissions After Court Order
The administration of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), located in Ile-Ife, has responded to news about a Federal High Court decision in Enugu that has ordered a halt to the admission processes for the 2025/2026 academic year at both OAU and the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
On September 30, 2025, Justice A.T. Segun-Bello issued a restraining order preventing both universities, along with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), from publishing or approving any admission lists. This legal case is scheduled to be heard again on October 28, 2025.
The individuals bringing the suit, including Chibuzor Success, Oyeleye Zainab Ayomide, Adedeji John Samuel, Monsura Aliat Aduragbemi, and Bassey Daniel Nsikak, have claimed there were irregularities during the Post-UTME process and are requesting the court’s help to stop the admissions until the issue is addressed.
In response to this situation, OAU’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, stated that the university has not received any formal court notice concerning the issue. He dismissed the rumours circulating online, emphasising that OAU does not release statements based on unconfirmed social media claims.
“Our institution does not respond to social media trends about court decisions or rulings,” Mr Olanrewaju remarked. “If and when we receive an official notice from the plaintiffs, we will respond appropriately. The public will be informed of our position.”
He pointed out that, at the moment, the university is not aware of any official court proceedings. “Currently, as it stands, the university does not know any legal case,” he reiterated.

The spokesperson for the university emphasised that OAU is dedicated to maintaining due process throughout its admission process. He further stated that the institution has consistently upheld transparency and fairness in accordance with JAMB’s guidelines and Nigeria’s educational policies.
Observers in the education sector highlight that this case has sparked widespread interest across the nation, prompting questions regarding the integrity of Post-UTME exams in Nigerian universities. OAU’s measured response is perceived as an effort to avoid influencing the ongoing legal matters.
However, stakeholders have urged everyone involved to stay calm and allow the judicial process to unfold properly. They also called on universities and JAMB to enhance transparency in admission procedures to avert similar disputes in the future.
The resolution of the case, which is set for October 28, will decide whether the suspension of admissions at OAU and UNILAG will persist or be lifted, enabling the release of admission lists for the 2025/2026 academic year.
At this moment, OAU’s administration insists it will not be influenced by unverified reports until the university is officially engaged in the legal proceedings.
