NUC Approves Unique Open University for Official Take-off

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has issued the operational license to Unique Open University, Lagos, allowing the newly approved private institution to begin full academic operations.

The license was formally presented to the university’s founder and chancellor, Prof. Chris Imumolen, by the NUC executive secretary, Prof. Yusufu Abdullahi Ribadu, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Prof. Ribadu praised the university for its remarkable infrastructure and preparedness for launch, emphasizing that its facilities demonstrate a strong dedication to quality education and academic excellence.

He encouraged the management to adhere to the standards necessary to retain the trust of the Commission and the Nigerian public.

Attending the presentation ceremony were members of Prof. Imumolen’s management team and the university’s Governing Council.

Prof. Imumolen, in his comments, expressed gratitude to the NUC for its swift inspection and thorough evaluation process, which led to the approval and granting of the license.

He pledged that the Unique Open University would transform higher education in Nigeria and the West African region by providing students with practical, industry-oriented skills that enhance their employability and entrepreneurial abilities.

The official inauguration, dedication, and opening ceremony of the university are scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the institution’s main campus located at Iyana Isashi Bus Stop, along the Lagos–Badagry Motorway, Ojo, Lagos.

This event, themed “Empowering Generations through Knowledge, Innovation, and Opportunity”, will also include the introduction of Prof. Imumolen’s management team and the presentation of the university’s vision to the public.
