NECO Releases 2025 SSCE Results, Malpractice Down 61%

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), showing a noteworthy 61 percent decrease in instances of examination malpractice compared to last year.

Dantani Wushishi, NECO’s registrar and chief executive, conveyed this information on Wednesday, September 17, indicating that there were 3,878 reported cases of malpractice in 2025, a reduction from 10,094 cases in 2024.

This improvement, as stated by the council, highlights a significant advancement in the integrity of examinations and showcases NECO’s ongoing efforts to combat cheating and bolster the credibility of Nigeria’s educational system.

In addition, Wushishi announced that 60.26 percent of the candidates who participated in the 2025 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal results achieved five credits or more, including in mathematics and English.

While unveiling the results at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, the registrar mentioned that a total of 1,367,210 candidates registered for the examination, with 1,358,339 actually taking part.

“Out of these 818,492 candidates, which is 60.26 percent, secured five credits and above, while 1,144,496 candidates, or 84.26 percent, attained five credits and above regardless of English and mathematics,” he added.

Wushishi described these results as a landmark achievement reflecting transparency, credibility, and the council’s dedication to quality education.

He pointed out that 1,622 candidates with special needs, including those with hearing and visual impairments, albinism, autism, low vision, and other conditions, also participated in the examination.

The registrar noted a 61.58 percent drop in examination malpractice, with the numbers at 3,878 cases in 2025, in contrast to the 10,094 in 2024.

Nevertheless, he indicated that 38 schools across 13 states were involved in mass cheating and would face penalties.

Wushishi mentioned that nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun states would be blacklisted for their role in malpractice and other violations.

He also announced that due to communal clashes disrupting examinations, the results from eight schools in the Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were withheld.

The registrar expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for their support of NECO’s reforms and encouraged higher institutions to hold off on finalizing admissions until all examination bodies have released their results.

The examination council informed candidates that they can access their results through its website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their registration numbers.
