NECO Honours Top Students, Schools, and Staff in Nigeria

The National Examinations Council (NECO) recognized exceptional candidates, schools, supervisors, and staff from across the nation during its 2024 Staff Productivity Award event held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NECO, revealed the award winners, emphasizing that the initiative aimed to encourage excellence, discipline, and dedication among both students and staff.

Master Balogun Farian Ajibola and Miss Iyasei Ifeanyichukwu Victory were named the top students in the National Common Entrance Examination, while Mr. Udo Jacob Chimmremeze Godslove Samuel from Diamond Special Schools in Owerri and Miss Okpala Chukwugozirin Kamtochukwu of Primary School in Nnewi were recognized as the best performers in the National Gifted Examination.

In the Basic Education Certificate Examination, Master Charles Bryan Uzoma and Miss Awanbor Omoriyekmwen Claire, both from Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City, achieved the highest scores.

Among the staff, Mr. Thadeus Ajagbu, the Kogi State Coordinator, was selected as the best state coordinator, while Mr. Ola A. Kareem received the accolade of best driver for 2024.

During his address at the ceremony, Prof. Wushishi remarked, “This occasion is not solely about acknowledging achievements. It aims to instill a culture of discipline, ongoing improvement, collaboration, and ethical conduct among staff and students. Regardless of difficulties, excellence is attainable, and this should be evident in every facet of our lives.”

He also pointed out some accomplishments of his administration over the past three years, such as the efficient management and prompt release of examination results, fair staff promotion processes, and the creation of ICT software to guarantee impartiality.

Alhaji Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, praised Prof. Wushishi’s leadership, calling it exemplary and attributing NECO’s increasing reputation for integrity and reliability to his guidance.
