NDPC Launches Investigation into Alleged JAMB Data Breach — What You Need to Know
The purported data breach at the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) appears to have previously been the subject of an inquiry by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
According to those familiar with the situation, the NDPC launched an investigation into the claims because of worries that hackers might have compromised the integrity and confidentiality of candidates’ personal information.
According to an NDPC source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the commission would do all in its power to find the truth.
According to the source, the inquiry would also look at third-party activity and a comprehensive audit of data processing.
Recently, JAMB acknowledged that 379,997 applicants in 157 testing locations around Lagos and the South-East were impacted by a technical glitch on its systems.
Following additional inquiry, our correspondent learned that at least 20 people were taken into the custody of the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services.
This is a small portion of the more than 100 well-known hackers who broke into the digital systems of well-known testing organizations like JAMB.
According to a different source, it’s possible that many testing locations did not implement the proper organizational and technical safeguards to protect candidates’ personal information.
The NDPC’s probe appeared to cover systematic audit of data processing and third parties, despite the fact that the incident reportedly affected 379,997 candidates.
