Background of the Suspension from LASU

Following an inquiry that cleared Professors Tajudeen Olumoko and Hammed Mutalib of charges of extortion and certificate racketeering, the administration of Lagos State University (LASU) has recalled the former Dean of Students Affairs (DSA).

Allegations and Initial Suspension

The LASU university’s administration suspended Professors Olumoko and Mutalib in November 2023 after a media report claimed that a syndicate was selling credentials for N2–3 million, depending on the degree of study. The controversy was closely associated with Olumoko.

After that, Olumoko was questioned and asked to clarify his involvement in the situation.

Investigations and Temporary Replacement

As the Lagos State House of Assembly and the school senate began investigations, the management replaced Olumoko as DSA with Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science.

Professor Olumoko’s Reinstatement

According to information obtained by The Nation, Olumoko subsequently returned to teaching in November 2024.

The school registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu, confirmed his return, stating:

“Professor Olumoko has been reinstated because the investigation has been completed, and he has been cleared.”
