Kogi State Polytechnic Expels 279 Students Over Exam Malpractice and Poor Academic Performance!
The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has dismissed six students for examination malpractices and 273 others for unsatisfactory academic performance during the 2024/25 academic session.
According to a statement by Uredo Omale, the Director of Public Relations and Protocol at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, the management has sanctioned the dismissal of 273 students for not meeting the expected academic standards in the first-semester examinations.
The statement mentions, “This was part of the significant outcomes from the 120th meeting of the board held on Thursday, April 17, in the Board Room at the Polytechnic Main Campus, Lokoja.
“The Chairman of the Board, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, praised the members of the Academic Board Result Verification Committee, headed by the Deputy Rector, Dr. Samuel Taiwo Olowo, for their diligence regarding the results and urged them to maintain their efforts.
“He also expressed disappointment with the performance of some students, which resulted in their withdrawal, despite the provision of a supportive learning environment.
“The withdrawals occurred across 20 departments and 42 programs.”
The statement continued, “The board approved the expulsions after being satisfied with the findings of the Central Examination Misconduct Committee, which is led by Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Ehimony.”
Professor Usman commended the board’s Central Examination Misconduct Committee, along with those from various schools and departments, for their thorough investigations and encouraged ongoing collaboration among the committees to reach definitive resolutions that will help maintain the quality of education at the Polytechnic.
The rector assured the Polytechnic community that the board and management’s ongoing commitment to implementing reforms would significantly benefit the institution.
While commending the members for their continued support, the chairman of the board took the chance to urge students to make the most of the conducive learning environment and remain dedicated to their studies.
Additionally, students who have been withdrawn or expelled must return all Polytechnic property in their possession, including their identification cards, to the security unit before leaving the institution.
