JAMB Releases Crucial Admission Update for Newly Approved Institutions — What You Need to Know!
Newly created and renovated postsecondary institutions have been warned by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) not to participate in unlawful admissions practices and to adhere to due process when enrolling students.
During an interactive session with principal officers of newly established, improved, and adopted universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education on Monday in Abuja, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede issued the warning.
Oloyede spoke throughout the workshop and went over the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) standard procedures for student admissions, namely, how to source applicants using the “Marketplace” feature.
“Any private or public institution that unlawfully admits a candidate will face consequences,” he said. Some of them commit the crime naively; thus, we don’t want them to do it. Now, we are teaching them how to fulfill their desires without breaking any laws.
Additionally, he emphasized that since many institutions now function in a fully digital environment, they must embrace automation, improve compliance, and develop their employees’ ability to prevent preventable violations.
Oloyede said, “Some institutions are still going at their own pace, finishing 2021 in 2023, finishing 2022 in 2024,” about the extended academic sessions brought on by events such as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strikes. Without careful planning, it would not have been feasible for us to run four concurrent sessions.
He said that Nigeria’s higher education system now includes more than 100 new academic institutions. These consist of twelve new educational institutions, thirty-three new polytechnics and monotechnics, fifteen federal colleges of education that have been updated and are mandated to offer both degree programs and NCEs, and twenty-two new universities.
Prof. Paulinus Okwelle, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), stressed in his remarks that the admissions process is dynamic and that new schools must have a thorough understanding of the system.
In order to expedite the procedure and enable younger institutions to fairly compete with more established ones, Okwelle stated that JAMB has implemented cutting-edge technologies. He exhorted the institutions to adopt these advancements in order to improve their effectiveness and reputation in the field of education.
