JAMB Under Fire for Allegedly Blocking First-Class Graduate from NYSC Mobilization
According to reports received by Greenbarge Reporters online newspaper, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has prevented one Basola Jamiu Owodunni from going on to serve the nation through the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Basola Jamiu Owodunni reportedly took the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board exam in 2017 and was admitted to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), to pursue a degree in civil engineering.
He is believed to have spent over five years at the institution and graduated in 2024 with a CGPA of 4.41, achieving first-class honors. It has come to light that after completing his exams, defending his project, and finishing the school’s clearance process, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board unexpectedly labeled his 2017 admission as “fake.”
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has reportedly blocked him from its portal and has declined to mobilize him for the NYSC. Sources indicate that this first-class graduate has been handed over to security agencies, including the Directorate of State Service (DSS). Despite the university confirming that his name appears on the JAMB CAPS, these issues persist.
It is said that even assurances from the university’s vice chancellor have failed to persuade JAMB to alter its position, as they continue to assert that his admission is invalid. Basola is noted to be without parents and lacks anyone to advocate on his behalf for justice. He stated that he has visited the JAMB office, the Public Complaint Commission, and Brekete Family FM radio, along with writing numerous letters to JAMB, but nothing has changed. Attempts by our reporters to contact JAMB’s management did not result in positive feedback. The spokesperson for JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, did not respond to WhatsApp messages sent to him.
