JAMB Trains 2,661 Proctors for 2025 UTME: Emphasis on Ethics, Professionalism, and Exam Integrity

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has trained a minimum of 2661 proctors on its examination procedures in advance of the 2025 Mock-UTME and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (2025 UTME).

The board congratulated the participants for being one of the select few who are judged to be qualified for appointment as proctors and encouraged them to view their engagement as a call for a national assignment. It also advised the proctors to be diligent and good ambassadors when introducing its rules of engagement to them.

He emphasized that since proctors are supposed to be computer-educated, they need to be able to help applicants who experience computer difficulties while taking the test.

He further highlighted that when on the field, they are expected to maintain high ethical standards.

The registrar equally charged the proctors to register with JAMB and produce a profile code, which would be provided to the Secretary of the Chief External Examiners, adding that the profile code generated would be used in any future contact with the board.

In order to stop unqualified individuals or groups from infiltrating, Prof. Oloyede instructed the proctors to include an identity card in addition to any other type of identification that the board would offer.

Although the registrar revealed that the board had increased its salaries, he said that the payment regime was following the conditions of remuneration and that the amount they received was an incentive rather than what they truly deserved.

According to him, the regime complied with the federal government’s requirements as of March 31, 2025, stayed within the permissible limit outlined in the terms of engagement, and followed international best practices.

Participants at a seminar led by Mr. Damilola Bamiro, the board’s information and technology consultant, learned that they were appointed based on trust and must therefore do their jobs with merit.

The IT consultant emphasized in his presentation that proctors must be on time for their job postings and that they have a strategic role to play in the way the exam is conducted.

Furthermore, Bamiro walked the proctors through the fundamentals of the test, specifically the centers’ structure, the proctors’ moral obligations, how to fill out report forms, the need for vigilance, the requirement to attend meetings, and the warnings against committing any extortion, violations, or actions that could compromise the exam’s conduct.

Bamiro also asked the proctors to be as professional as possible, keep their composure, and pay close attention to details, particularly when it comes to the list of prohibited items, the biometric verification processes, and going over the checklist.

He went on to say that applicants should never be permitted to enter the exam room an hour after it has begun, and they should never be permitted to leave the room before the exam has begun.
