2025 UTME: JAMB Set to Sanction 11 CBT Centers Over Alleged Exam Irregularities!

Eleven computer-based test (CBT) centers and their registrants who engaged in fingerprint irregularities during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration process will face harsh penalties from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

This was revealed shortly after a brainstorming session with important stakeholders by JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede, who met with the impacted CBT centers and registrants on Tuesday in Abuja.

He stated that the action was meant to preserve the integrity of the test process and that the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, would need to approve the suggested punishments.

The following recommendations are made by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s leadership and some important stakeholders: Any registrant who has registered more than 50 candidates (with infractions) should be barred from all Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board activities.

This implies that the individual in question will not be permitted to take part in any UTME exercises, enroll in the UTME even as a student, or take any of the sister exams, including WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB, for a period of three years.

“The three-year suspension is in effect. The board will review it and examine the matter after three years. Such a suspension may be lifted if the registrant has expressed regret.

“And after issuing a bond, those who have registered fewer than 50 will be cautioned and asked to write a letter of apology to the Board stating that they will not engage in such behavior again.

Following a warning, all participating CBT centers are required to sign a bond. In addition to the bond, they will have to provide proof of their registrants’ training.

And any federal university in the area should serve as the anchor for that training. Through Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, who read out the recommendations, Oloyede stated that the relevant department of the institution in their area should serve as the anchor for such training.

Oloyede clarified the recommendations by stating that the board would not accept any future violations from the impacted centers, even if they claimed ignorance. As a result, they must complete the required training at the nearest federal universities before JAMB can re-engage them.

“Until they present a certificate or a letter from the federal institution nearest to that center attesting to the ethical standards training its personnel has received, we will not permit any of these centers to do anything with us.

“However, the federal government-owned centers will be reported to the authorities that this is what your agency did,” Oloyede stated.

In the past, the majority of impacted registrants and a few CBT operators who admitted to using candidates’ fingers to help with registration explained the practice away as ignorance or a desire to increase the number of people registered in their centers. Many of them sobbed and begged for forgiveness.

Former Lagos Commissioner of Police and one of the meeting’s stakeholders, Fatai Owoseni, stated that the impacted registrants’ actions called for prosecution and potential jail time, but he urged JAMB to pardon them and require them to sign promises not to commit the same crimes in the future.

Bashir Gumel, a Jicoras CBT Center official, had earlier stated that the center had already started an internal investigation into the involvement of its registrants and that JAMB would receive the results.

“All of them have been called here, and we have heard what they have done. And they’ve admitted to it. This will not go unpunished in order to maintain the integrity of our institution. They must be disciplined.

And we guarantee that the JAMB office will be informed of the action that is taken. Furthermore, once more, our center is not a recognized one in that respect. There aren’t many CBT centers in the catchment region where we live.

“We pledge that this will never happen again because this is the first time, and we were unaware of such incidents,” Gumel stated.

Ijaw National Academy, Kiama, Bayelsa State; Directorate of ICT, Nigerian Army University, Biu, Gombe State; Emerald IT Academy Limited, Benin City, Edo State; Tigh Technologies, Sascon International School, Maitama, Abuja; Misau Emirate ICT Centre, Misau, Bauchi State; and Jicoras CBT Centre, Babura, Jigawa State, and Anthony, Lagos State’s Huntsville Technology Limited are among the impacted CBT centers invited to the meeting.

Other locations include the Consulate Salle D’Examen CBT Center, located by Jonny Lane/Navy Barrack Agip Estate in Rivers State; the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), located in Wase, Plateau State; the Abdul Ocean Weath CBT Center, located in Ibadan, Oyo State; and Jolas College CBT Center, located in Obalende, Lagos.
