Breaking: JAMB Set to Release 2025 UTME Results Today, May 9 — Check Yours Now!

The results of each applicant who took the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be made public on Friday, May 9, 2025, according to information given by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, confirmed to Nairametrics that candidates who took this year’s exam can start reviewing their results on Friday.

According to performance data made public by the board, only 21.5% of the more than 1.95 million registered candidates nationally received scores higher than 200.

Reacting to this outcome, stakeholders in the education sector have expressed worries over the low performance rate, advocating for quick adjustments in teaching quality and curriculum delivery across secondary schools.

Earlier this week, in the Statistical Analysis of 2025 UTME Result provided by the Board, JAMB highlighted that the delay in the distribution of individual results was due to ongoing evaluation processes, notably for blind candidates and those under the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG).

Additionally, certain results are still being processed, such as those of blind candidates and other members of the JEOG candidates group.

Later this week, a press conference will be arranged to reveal each candidate’s results, and to make it easier to verify them, the board letter said.

Reactions trail poor UTME results.

Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader Peter Obi has voiced severe concerns over the quality of Nigeria’s education system following the announcement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

In a message released on his official X (previously Twitter) page, Obi described the performance as “a reflection of the deep-rooted challenges in our educational system.”

He ascribed the dismal performance to long-term neglect and underfunding in Nigeria’s education sector.

“Decades of underinvestment in education, a sector that should be central to our national development strategy, are once again highlighted by the latest JAMB results,” he stated.

JAMB addresses issues

Meanwhile, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has stated that the 2025 UTME result is consistent with historical patterns over the last 12 years.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, Oloyede stated that roughly 1.5 million of the 1.9 million applicants received scores below 200, adding that this pattern is not unusual.

“This is not an unusual occurrence this year. He said, “The performance figures are in line with those from the previous 12 years.

Additionally, he clarified that individual results are still being reviewed even though the overall performance data has been made public.

“We have published the overall statistics because that step of the process is finished, but we haven’t released the individual results yet,” he stated.

“To decide whether to publicize or withhold the results of those applicants who have borderline difficulties, we are now analyzing their circumstances. The individual findings will be made public after that is finished.

The failing rate is defended by the education minister.
The high failure rate in the 2025 UTME, according to Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa, indicates the success of the government’s anti-malpractice efforts, he said in response to national worries.

Alausa stated during Tuesday’s appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief that the performance decline demonstrates the effectiveness of JAMB’s security protocols.

The minister pointed out that “that’s a big concern, and it’s a reflection of exams being done properly.” “JAMB uses a computer-based testing system, and they’ve implemented strong security measures, and as a result, fraud or cheating has been completely eliminated.” Regretfully, we cannot say the same for WAEC and NECO.
