The results of the retake exam for students impacted by the technical issue in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have been made public by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

The board revealed the results in a statement sent Sunday morning by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin. It showed that 21,082 of the 336,845 candidates who were rescheduled for the test did not show up.

Although JAMB planned a mop-up exam for applicants who missed the initial UTME, including those whose absence had no stated reason, no explanation was given for the significant number of absentees.

In the statement, the board expressed worry about rampant exam fraud committed by CBT, school owners, and candidates.

According to information obtained, the Chief External Examiners’ meeting, which was presided over by Professor Olufemi Peters, approved the retake results based on Prof. Boniface Nworgu’s psychometric analysis.

The results of underage candidates were released by JAMB; however, they are not eligible for admission until there is legal action.

The meeting decided to provide the withheld results of underage applicants who performed below the set standards as part of the healing process, unless litigation is involved.

They had previously signed an assurance during the registration procedure accepting that only those who meet the stipulated qualifications would be considered for underage special admission; therefore, this outcome does not, however, qualify them for admission, the document states.

Additionally, the board gave candidates who engaged in online misconduct a one-time waiver.

The results of candidates who participated in “WhatsApp Runs” and other misdemeanors will be made public. It was discovered that this group of applicants had engaged in illegal help solicitation.

“The meeting emphasized that its decision is a once-for-all waiver rather than an endorsement of candidates’ reprehensible behavior.

According to JAMB, candidates were therefore cautioned from joining dubious “WhatsApp and other anti-social groups.”

The board has stated that CBT centers found to have engaged in misconduct will be placed on a blacklist and their owners will face legal action.

Law enforcement will also take action against anyone who engages in identity or biometric fraud.

“The meeting decided that all of the involved CBT centers should be placed on a blacklist and that complicit owners should face legal action after denouncing the involvement of several CBT centers in major registration and examination malpractices.

“The identified individuals who directly registered the candidates with altered biometrics and pictures should also be caught and prosecuted.”

The board called for government control and denounced unregulated tutorial centers that support misconduct.

Additionally, it reiterated that it supports CBT and intends to hire specialists to improve the registration procedure.

The gathering urged unity and cautioned against the divisive narrative, denouncing attempts to politicize technical concerns along ethnic lines.

The attempts by certain parties to use the regrettable occurrence to spread sectional and tribal narratives were lamented during the gathering.

“Neither a specific region of the country nor any particular group of people was responsible for the regrettable tragedy.

It was emphasized that these kinds of stories run the potential of deepening already-existing rifts in society and even within JAMB employees.

According to the statement, “The meeting urged them to remain steadfast and courageous and commended the Registrar and the Management of JAMB for the competent and sincere handling of the unfortunate accident.”

JAMB also denied reports of high scores in sessions that were canceled, claiming that only a small percentage of students achieved 217 and that 99% of students scored below 200.

Citing the instance of Olisa Gabriel Chukwuemeka, who fraudulently claimed to have scored 326 on the 2025 UTME, the board also denounced attempts to take advantage of the circumstance.

Before his result was withdrawn, JAMB verified that he had changed his 2024 exam score of 203 to a 2025 exam score of 180. After receiving criticism from the public, he later deleted his social media accounts.

Keep in mind that the 2025 UTME results were first made public on May 9.

According to PUNCH Online, on May 14, JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede disclosed that a technological error had tainted the results of 379,997 candidates from 157 centers in the Lagos and South-East zones.

As he apologized for the mistake and affirmed that impacted candidates will have to retake the test, the registrar broke down in tears during the press conference.

During the first three days of the test, he said, the appropriate upload of candidate responses was not possible due to malfunctioning server updates.
