Emotional Moment: JAMB Registrar Breaks Down in Tears, Apologizes Over UTME Errors [UPDATED]

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), apologized for the mistakes in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Wednesday while sobbing.

At a news conference in Abuja, Oloyede sobbed as he declared, “I apologize for the trauma caused to the candidates.”

At the beginning of the press conference, Oloyede admitted that there had been “one or two errors” in the 2025 UTME.

The head of JAMB, who sobbed uncontrollably while sporadically dabbing at his face with a handkerchief, said he accepted full responsibility for the staff’s carelessness and announced that 92 centers in the Owerri Zone and 65 centers in Lagos, which serve the five Southeast states, would retake the test.

We will never forget this day, which should have been a day of celebration for what was, until recently, thought to be our most successful UTME exercise. Unfortunately, one or two people made a simply preventable mistake, overshadowing this delight,” Oloyede remarked.

Oloyede went on to say, “To put it simply, 92 centers (173,387 applicants) were affected in the Owerri zone, which encompasses the Southeast states, while 65 centers (206,610 candidates) were affected in the Lagos zone, which just contains Lagos state. To put it plainly, the technical staff assigned by the service provider for LAG (Lagos and South-East zones) unintentionally neglected to update a few delivery servers when resolving the problem. Unfortunately, this error was not noticed until the results were made public.
