JAMB Assures: No 2025 UTME Candidate Will Be Posted Outside Their State of Choice!
No candidate would be obliged to take the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) outside of the state in which they registered, according to a statement released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In a phone conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, gave this guarantee. He explained that this arrangement only pertained to the mock test, even if some applicants taking the UTME mock exam were posted outside of their home state since there were not enough authorized Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers.
Dr. Benjamin clarified, “For instance, candidates would be redirected to Nassarawa State if centers in Abuja were full and there were centers available there.” But he made it clear that this kind of scenario will not occur during the main UTME. He claimed that since there will be additional testing locations, no candidate would be sent outside of their state of registration, hence this would not occur during the main exam.
Dr. Benjamin also emphasized how crucial early registration is in deciding how close a candidate’s exam location is to their home. He stated that the candidate might be assigned to any available center in the state once a nearby center had already been filled.
Nairametrics reports that 2,030,627 individuals enrolled to participate in the 2025 UTME, which is set to start on April 25. Now that registration is over, JAMB is concentrating on safeguarding the testing environment and implementing fresh anti-cheating strategies to preserve the exam’s integrity.
According to the board, some of these steps have already shown results, as seen by the arrest of multiple applicants who tried to obtain admission by using falsified A-level certificates. All applicants have received a severe warning from JAMB, which advises them to rigorously follow the exam criteria and avoid any kind of malpractice. The board emphasized that there are monitoring measures in place to identify and punish dishonest behavior.
Furthermore, JAMB revealed that 10,446 results from the 2025 Mock UTME are still being processed nationwide, while 115,735 results have already been made public. Although 200,113 individuals registered for the April 10 mock exam, only 126,181 actually took the test.
According to JAMB, the mock exam gives applicants experience with the CBT environment and enables the board to test new innovations in addition to acting as a practice for the main UTME. The practice has been quite helpful in overcoming obstacles and enhancing the exam experience in general. Candidates have been urged by JAMB to exercise patience and keep studying for the main exam.
