JAMB Hires Top IT Experts to Investigate UTME Glitches — Tech Probe Underway!

Top IT specialists and specialists in educational evaluation have been enlisted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to look into claims of technical issues that plagued the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Some candidates blamed purported technical issues for the widespread failure in this year’s UTME in separate interviews with The PUNCH on Sunday.

Out of the 1.9 million candidates who took the test, 1.5 million received scores lower than 200 out of 400, according to the findings published by JAMB.

Alex Onyia, the CEO of Educare and a well-known education advocate, declared on Sunday that hundreds of students were prepared to file a lawsuit against JAMB.

“As of right now, 8,391 students have complained about the JAMB 2025 exam’s glitches,” Onyia wrote on his @winexv X (previously Twitter) page. “The inefficiency of JAMB’s system, which caused significant harm to these students’ mental health, is well-documented.”

He went on: “JAMB is expected to display all students’ mark sheets so they can see their results, including what they failed, the right answers, and an easy way to contest them.” These students’ futures are on the line.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesperson, addressed the worries in a statement released on Monday, stating that the exam board had engaged specialists to examine its system.

He claimed that the action was a component of an expedited system-wide assessment that was brought on by what it called “unusual complaints” about the way the examination was conducted from a few states nationwide.

“We have enlisted several experts to help with this process, including Vice Chancellors from various institutions, Chief External Examiners who are in charge of tertiary institutions, members of the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, and the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa,” the statement read.

The inquiry, he continued, was a component of the board’s yearly post-examination assessment, which encompasses every facet of the UTME procedure, from registration to testing and results announcement.

As with the exams themselves, he stated, “We will promptly implement appropriate remedial measures if it is determined that there were indeed glitches.”

Although JAMB recognized the complaints, it emphasized that they originated from a small number of places and were not widespread.

The board did, however, guarantee that every applicant would receive an equal chance and that any legitimate concerns would be promptly resolved.

According to the board, to maintain fairness throughout the UTME session, any candidate who experiences confirmed technological issues is rescheduled for a different exam day.
