JAMB Extends Public University Admission Deadline to Nov 17
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has pushed back the admissions deadline for public universities in Nigeria for the 2025 academic year from October 31 to November 17, 2025.
This extension, as reported in JAMB’s weekly bulletin, was made in light of various factors impacting the current admissions process at numerous institutions.
Dr Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, stated that the decision followed requests from university leaders and recent accreditation changes that necessitated more time for execution.
Additionally, JAMB mentioned that there would not be any further extensions beyond the new date.
The bulletin noted, “AVCNU has specifically requested an extension due to interruptions caused by multiple reasons, including a court ruling mandating that the status quo remain regarding the 2025/2026 admission list, which was only lifted on October 28, 2025.”
The Board reminded that the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, conducted on July 18, 2025, under the chairmanship of Minister of Education Dr Maruf Alausa, initially set the deadline for public universities to complete their admissions by October 31, 2025.
JAMB also pointed out that the recent accreditation of new academic programmes was a significant factor for the date change.
“To enhance access in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the NUC on October 29, 2025, announced the accreditation of 229 new programmes for 37 universities, which are now being scheduled for admissions,” the statement continued.
The Board recognised the effort and collaboration of public universities in achieving the prior deadline and emphasised that the extension is meant to facilitate fairness and inclusivity among institutions.
However, JAMB cautioned that the new deadline of November 17, 2025, is definitive and must be strictly followed.
“This extension aims to ensure that no institution or candidate faces unfair disadvantages. It represents the final adjustment, and all institutions are required to complete their processes within this revised timeframe,” the Board affirmed.
