JAMB Exposes Shocking Tactic: Candidates Use AI to Fake Albino Identity in 2025 UTME!

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has expressed concern over findings related to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by fraudsters to manipulate examination malpractice.

In the board’s bulletin, Oloyede revealed that recent findings indicate the utilization of AI to merge the faces of two candidates to create an image resembling that of an albino, aiming to take advantage of facial recognition flaws. Some individuals attempted to deceive the system by falsely presenting themselves as albinos to exploit these vulnerabilities.

“They are not albinos. The AI they used had certain characteristics that allowed them to appear more convincingly as albinos if they did not declare it on our forms.

He noted that the confessions of those caught provided insight into the sophisticated nature of the fraud.

“We have never had even 100 albinos in any year, but this year, we recorded 1,787 claiming to be albinos. Thus, the total who declared themselves as albinos reached 1,787.

“Out of 2 million candidates who registered at various centers nationwide, one center alone had 450 registered, as if every albino in Africa chose to go to that specific location.

“When one of the arrested individuals offered information, he explained the scheme to us.

“We then pursued all those who claimed to be albinos, only to discover that the actual number of genuine albinos who registered for the 2025 UTME is fewer than 250.

“You could see the dark-skinned individual apprehended in Benin City posing as an albino. How can one claim to be an albino? This is merely one of their tactics. By declaring themselves as albinos, they utilize blending techniques; they take a picture of the person they wish to impersonate and merge the images.

“When you view the resulting photo, it can appear to resemble you. That’s what AI is currently capable of; it’s a process of picture blending,” he stated.
