JAMB 2025: Top 7 Courses with the Highest Cut-Off Marks — Is Yours on the List?
Certain courses continue to stand out due to their consistently high cut-off marks in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), even as competition for admission to Nigerian institutions heats up.
Many programs are still in high demand in 2025, drawing thousands of exceptional applicants. In addition to high UTME grades, some courses require outstanding O-level performance.
Surgery and Medicine:
Since many students in Nigeria aspire to become doctors, medicine and surgery are always the most competitive courses. There are rigorous quotas because there are only a few spots available at most, if not all, postsecondary institutions due to the high demand for the degree.
In addition to having five credits in areas including English language, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics from their WASSCE or GCE, applicants to medical and surgical programs are expected to have a UTME score of 280 or higher.
Law
Another extremely competitive course in Nigeria is law. Because of the respect, employment prospects, and social standing that come with being a lawyer, many students in the nation seek to pursue this career path.
Pharmacy:
In Nigeria, pharmacy is a highly regarded course due to the financial and employment potential. Graduates of the program have job stability and can work in any healthcare organization.
Students must have at least five credits in areas including English language, mathematics, biology, physics, and chemistry in addition to a UTME score of 270 or higher in order to be admitted.
Nursing:
One of the occupations in Nigeria with the quickest rate of growth is nursing science. A profession in nursing offers security, financial incentives, and employment options throughout the world.
A UTME score of 260 or higher is required of applicants to nursing science programs. Additionally, they need to have five credits in areas like math, physics, chemistry, biology, and English language.
Accounting
Accounting’s employment prospects, career flexibility, and professional certifications like ICAN make it one of the most sought-after courses in Nigeria.
To be eligible for admission, students must receive a UTME score of 250 or higher. They also need to have five credits in any other topic, including financial accounting, economics, mathematics, and the English language.
Computer science
Computer science is becoming one of the most sought-after disciplines in Nigeria due to the rapid advancement of technology.
In addition to having five credits in topics like English language, math, physics, computer studies, and any other subject, students must score 250 or higher on their UTME to be admitted.
Economics
Because of its social relevance and the employment opportunities that come with studying it, economics is one of the most competitive subjects offered in Nigeria’s higher education institutions.
To be considered for admission, students wishing to study economics must score 250 or above on the UTME. Additionally, they need to have at least five credits in any of the following subjects: government, commerce, economics, mathematics, English language, and/or any other topic.
