JAMB Concludes Probe on 2025 UTME Malpractice Report

A Special Committee on Examination Infractions, established by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has finished its tasks and will present its findings to JAMB management on Monday, September 8, 2025, according to an announcement made on Monday.

Formed last month, the committee was assigned a three-week timeframe to examine irregularities identified during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The violations reportedly affected 6,458 suspected candidates.

Dr. Jake Epelle of the TAF Foundation chaired the committee, which was tasked with pinpointing the methods, patterns, tools, and technologies used to carry out various examination offenses.

The committee members are responsible for “reviewing current examination and registration policies and suggesting improvements to bolster the system’s defense against such misconduct; assessing the responsibility, if any, of each of the 6,458 suspected candidates (whose results, excluding those of the albinism group, are still being withheld); and recommending suitable disciplinary actions or sanctions against individuals or groups found guilty.”

Additionally, they will propose enhancements to improve the system’s resilience against malpractice.

The committee was directed to consider any relevant or related matters and to deliver a complete report no later than three weeks after its formation.

JAMB stated that the report from the committee is anticipated to tackle new forms of examination infractions noted during the 2025 UTME.

The committee comprises academics, security and technology specialists, as well as representatives from pertinent stakeholders.

Highlighted members in the announcement include Prof. Ibe Ifeakandu (Deputy Chairperson), Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, Prof. Samuel G. Odewumi, Prof. Chinedum Uzoma Nwajiuba, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, and CP (Rtd) Fatai Owoseni. Security representatives included personnel from the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Police Force, along with representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, and the National Association of Nigerian Students.

Experts from technology and education—including Dr. Chuks Okpaka, Dr. Mrs. Olubukola Dosunmu, and others—rounded out the committee.

Board representatives on the committee included senior officials from JAMB’s ITS, legal services, and various departments, while the committee secretariat was composed of Mrs. Alisabatu Jekada and Mr. Iyilade Abiola.

According to earlier reports from PUNCH Online, JAMB initiated investigations into the suspected candidates linked to technology-driven malpractice uncovered during the 2025 UTME.

The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, lamented the increasing sophistication of examination fraud, noting that the results of 6,458 candidates are still under investigation for suspected involvement in advanced cheating methods.
