JUST IN: JAMB Clears FUTA Graduate’s Record After Fake Admission Allegation Sparks Outrage!
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has reopened the portal of Jamiu Basola, a civil engineering alumnus from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, after he was previously flagged for having a fraudulent admission.
PUNCH Online had reported that Basola, who graduated in 2024 with a cumulative grade point average of 4.41, stated he took the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in 2017 and gained admission into FUTA in 2018.
However, a problem arose during his final clearance when the university’s Student Affairs Division informed him that his mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps was rejected.
“I was advised to check my details on the JAMB matriculation list, which showed a fake admission,” he explained.
Basola went on to say that after multiple unsuccessful attempts to access his JAMB portal, he sent letters to various officials at FUTA, including the registrar, vice-chancellor, and chairman of the admissions committee, asking for their assistance.
In a phone interview with our correspondent on Monday, Basola confirmed exclusively that his previously locked JAMB portal has been unlocked and that his name now appears on the matriculation list, a prerequisite for NYSC mobilization.
“We are still working through the process because I have not yet been mobilized for NYSC.
“My portal was locked. But now, I can log in; I can reprint my documents.
“While I had some documents previously, I was able to reprint them.
“My name was absent from the matriculation list, but it has now been updated,” Basola stated.
This development was also confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the National Association of Nigerian Students’ National Public Relations Officer, Adeyemi Ajasa, who called the resolution of the case a significant win for justice and student welfare.
“This positive outcome is a direct result of the proactive intervention from the NANS national leadership, spearheaded by the commendable president, Comrade Olushola Oladoja,” Ajasa stated.
He confirmed that Basola’s JAMB portal has been restored and his name added to the official matriculation list, following persistent pressure from the national leadership and NANS South-West Zone D.
“His battle was indeed our battle, and his success is a victory for every Nigerian student,” the statement added.
Ajasa also recognized the role played by the FUTA Civil Engineering Department in reaching out to JAMB to clarify Basola’s admission status.
“This resolution highlights the influence of collective action and NANS’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of Nigerian students,” he remarked.
NANS stated it would continue to monitor the situation to guarantee Basola’s inclusion in the upcoming NYSC mobilization batch.
“We reaffirm our dedication to holding institutions accountable and ensuring that such preventable issues do not arise again.
“The lives and academic pursuits of Nigerian students should not be treated as bargaining chips,” Ajasa emphasized.
“Jamiu’s academic perseverance was unfortunately challenged by a ‘fake admission’ mark after years of hard work.
Recall, Basola’s situation drew public attention after he posted on social media, claiming that JAMB had declared his university admission invalid seven years into his studies.
In reply, JAMB, via its Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, asserted that Basola remained “an unknown individual to the Board concerning admission.”
The board also asserted that the admission letter in his possession “did not originate from its system.”
“The assertion that he is an orphan or from an underprivileged background should not be used as emotional leverage in this case,” the statement indicated.
JAMB had urged Basola to reveal how he acquired the document in question, noting that this information would assist in clarifying the situation.
